Travels as Guiding Thread<\/h2>\n

The creation of H\u00f4tel Koru was a five-year journey \u2014 from the first architectural sketches to finding the perfect location, building the structure, and carefully selecting every material and decorative detail.<\/p>\n

Bernadette van Empel, the hotel\u2019s owner, fell in love with this former tree nursery in 2011.<\/p>\n

The guiding theme of the entire concept is travel<\/strong>. Inspired by a one-year journey through Australia, New Zealand, and Asia<\/strong> (2009\u20132010), each suite \u2014 as well as the garden \u2014 reflects memories, cultures, and emotions from that transformative adventure.<\/p>\n

Our Story<\/h2>\n

The Story of Bernadette & St\u00e9phane<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bernadette, originally from the Netherlands, was born in the South of France, in the C\u00e9vennes region (Gard).
After moving to Belgium in 1999 to study tourism and event management<\/strong>, she fell under the spell of the Brabant Hesbaye countryside<\/strong>, and in particular the charming village of Autre-\u00c9glise<\/strong>, where her dream project would come to life.<\/p>\n

St\u00e9phane, a native of Tienen (Tirlemont)<\/strong>, grew up in the hospitality world, spending part of his youth working in the local caf\u00e9 on his street \u2014 while balancing his passions for motocross, football, and billiards<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Having always lived around Autre-\u00c9glise, St\u00e9phane worked as an accountant in Orp-le-Grand<\/strong> and later in Poucet<\/strong>, where the two of us met.<\/p>\n

He joined the hotel project in 2016<\/strong>, and what began as a great friendship gradually turned into a shared life journey.<\/p>\n

Together, we are delighted to welcome you \u2014 in French, Dutch, English, or German<\/strong> \u2014 to our little haven of peace and hospitality.<\/p>\n

\u00ab The Koru, unfolding fern leaf, represents a new beginning, new life and growth. The shape is derived from the young frond that develops and eventually unfolding from the protection of a parent frond. This process refers to the life cycle of the human being. The Koru represents the eternal peace and quiet of the forest and is an expression of the desire of man to be surrounded by these elements. \u00bb<\/p>\n
